Transcription: Why is it that when you put a new blank disk into your PC, well, you usually have to wait while the disk is formatted? Here's why. Most disks come out of their box totally blank. Formatting draws a sort of grid on the disk surface, so the operating system will know where to store and read data. This grid divides the disk surface into pie-shaped sections. Mmm, pie!
